Country Club Wedding Crisis: THE VOTE

So yesterday I asked you to help me shop for this sister-of-the-groom (aka Might Show Up Naked). Roughly 80 of you did.

I combed your comments and chose 7 dresses, taking these deets from MSUN into consideration:

It will be an outdoor ceremony in the late afternoon (in August), moved inside for an evening reception. It is taking place up north (close to Boston - the 'wicked' totally gave me away!), and I definitely think it is a 'new money' vibe (though I am not entirely sure what that means).

... I am loving the idea of going balls out on one asset, staying pretty conservative everywhere else - aka - maybe get reeeaal leggy and try to stay pretty modest on the top?? Thoughts? (PS - now that we are best friends I can tell you that I am 5' 10", between size 8-10... more likely to show off my legs than my boobies/arms). Maybe a one of the cap sleeve numbers? I am also LOVING the backless idea.

Joie "Mae" Silk Feather Print Dress. Pure Silk.
WAS: $368.00 NOW: $154.56

Trina Turk Pierson Cowl Neck Dress.
Viscose/Elasthane. $148.00

Vero Moda Very Jersey Wrap Front Dress.
93% Polyester, 7% Elastane. $103.43

Wren Sasha Ruched Dress. WAS: $227.00 NOW: $98.00

Halston Heritage. 87% Rayon, 11% Nylon, 2% Elastane. WAS: $365 NOW: $146

Jessamine Corset Dress.
16% Nylon, 42% Polyester, 42% Cotton. $155.00

Jack and Ginger Chiffon Faux Wrap Dress. Silk. $128.00

We kind of struck out on the backless thing. Maybe that only works with an evening dress? (I.E. This "body conscious" shit sucks.)

HOKAY. Please choose wisely. You only get one vote.

I'll post the results tomorrow at 4pm PST.

  2. As I'm sitting in 95 degree heat at 8pm in the North East I'm voting mostly based on what would be cool enough to wear outside in August. Sticky.

  3. Can we have an html link tutorial? Copy/pasting seventy five thousand links get really tedious :)

  5. Disappointed by the dearth of Outnet-ness! (I'm hoping they were generally all the wrong size! I don't need the validation or anything)

  10. oh PS i thought we were talking about the drink, not the dress. i have never been good at that whole "please read all directions before beginning test." but i guess it fits, that would be my second choice...

  11. I sort of want the Halston Heritage dress for myself...

  12. Hm, I think they are all too casual.

  13. Yeah, feh. None of these seem country club wedding appropriate, at least not in a stand out way.

  14. I like all of them except the last two (I think that I probably have a similar body to MSUN and the J&G one would look like a robe on me and I just don't like the other one).

I voted for the first one b/c I like it best but it may not be as formal as the solid colored ones. The red one could be pretty sassy. Very bold to wear to a wedding.

  15. i disagree with the anons, i think they're def appropriate! i think body cons are the best way to flaunt it if you've got it, the frumpy loose stuff just adds bulk :/

  16. Srsly, and I sh*t you not, when I went through the links yesterday, these were the dresses that I picked. To the point where I am kinda freaked out. It is like you are in my brain...

I can't believe this went to a vote!!! Sooo giddy! You do know that I am probably going to buy the dress that wins, right?? (then obvs going to take a pic and show you the end result. duh.)

I almost want to tell you what I voted for, but I don't want to twist any arms...

  17. Okay, one more suggestion. Animal print. Low back. Cap sleeves. Available in 8-10. Here.

Not that I don't love voting.

  18. Black wrap dress. Her ex is going to be there!!!P.S. I want to see what accessories and shoes and such she chooses!

  19. I love the last dress: Jack and Ginger Chiffon Faux Wrap Dress.

  20. I'm happy to see my pick (Wren dress)! However, Fine Persecution may just have hit it out of the park. A few people are commenting that the vote choices are a little too casual which might be true (although they can all be dressed up with the right accessories). But that Tibi dress could be the next level up in fancy that these others are missing.

  21. I tried on that Halston Heritage dress at TJ Maxx. NOT flattering. But I'm not 5'10.

    ReplyDelete
  22. The Wren Sasha Ruched Dress is down from $227 to $98? Heck, I might get it myself!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Voted for the Jack and Ginger dress, but I'm pretty sure I've changed my mind because Fine Persecution's pick in comments is better. Just sayin'.

  24. Woah. Jinx, other Amanda (8:07... how did I not see your post sooner?)

  25. i think that in this case accessories are of paramount importance. since it's a country club and all about subtlety, i would go for something sneakily sexy, like leg-lengthening nude pointy-toe flats. simple pearl studs would look stunning and understated and fit right in, but i also think a big costume jewelry bracelet (for example, something along the lines of this http://www.jcrew.com/womens_category/jewelry/bracelets/PRDOVR~50688/50688.jsp ) would pack a rockin, socially acceptable punch. full disclosure: i voted for the wren dress because i think it's the perfect balance of conservative (country club) and sexy (ex), and that's what i tend to go for at shmancy events.
    yay good luck!

  26. I worry that, except for the red, they're too casual. It's an evening reception. The Jack and Ginger is a pretty amazing dress, though.

    ReplyDelete
  27. The Vera Moda is pretty but I think Polyester can sometime absorb smells.... that's NOT hot !
    Go with Silk
    Silk is chic

  28. I know that sound like a weird comment but if it is super hot outside it might be important.

  29. @Fine Persecution SHITBALLS i love that dress. um, i vote HELL YES on that. i wish it came in my size.

  30. The Wren. Shades of Missoni.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I went with the Wren Sasha Ruched Dress, taking into account that it'll be afternoon and evening celebration... ;) Tiff

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh, man: DO NOT think of wearing the Wren dress to a country club. I own it, and it is so effing short that I don't dare wear it without tights. And I'm no wallflower.

  33. I vote for Fine Percussionist's...and for the red one
