this would have made an awesome wedding

I knoooooooooooooow. Stop it Portland. What, are you jealous of Brooklyn?

But I am a sucker for mason jars + men with with beards.

Groom Style: the light suit

I am generally not a fan of light suits. I am definitely not a fan of the chino version from J. Crew, ever popular for hot-weather weddings.

But these two are slammin.*

Groom Style: Rock Star

I love the wild-west-meets-the-seventies look. These boys are rocking the vest.

I'm also a sucker for good facial hair. Don't shave your beard (or your mustache, please!) for the wedding, whatever you do. Be yourself. And look like yourself in the pictures.

The Killers found here.

This real-life groom also happens to be in a band. It shows in his f-it-I'll-wear-what-I-want attitude. We could all use a little more of that.

(Doc Martens are meant to be worn with tube socks, after all. Wedding or no wedding.)

I assume you've been to 100 Layer Cake

I don't want to get too full of myself or anything. But I'm pretty sure they posted this powder-blue-tuxedo-shirt Vegas wedding just for me.

Did you have that feeling?

the joy of....

Inspired by this book review, I bought an old copy of The Joy of Sex on ebay to give H-town for Valentine's Day.*

Purely as an anthropological artifact you understand.

*I really wanted a first edition, but what I got was "Completely Revised and Updated for the 1980's." She: still shag haircut + gogo boots. He: still bearded neanderthal. Looks pretty seventies to me.

Groom Style: Seth

Digging the scarf. And, of course, the facial hair.

Also, this wedding was at El Capitan State Beach, a gorgeous spot in Santa Barbara that H-town and I scouted one weekend before we realized (duh) that we should get married at my dad's house (much) further north.

We found the upscale tents and cabins at el Capitan Canyon across the road from the beach to be quite luxurious (aside from the shared bathrooms, which might be unsettling for a mom or two), but the resort seemed very keen on quiet, which wasn't in line with the wedding we were planning.

(And you were afraid I was done with weddings. Silly buttons.)

Have you checked out Rock 'n Roll Bride lately?

Lady has a badass new website, and I am especially digging her rock 'n roll groom style posts.

You know I'm a sucker for a vintage tuxedo shirt.

wait, facial hair indicates bad economy?

According to the WSJ, newly unemployed corporate types are busting out (inspired, of course, by the hipsters). Via the Cut.

Portland DJ embraces winter

Remember Matt? A little snow in Portland and he's gone fully metrognome.

I'm worried about what will happen to my Texas/LA man when I bring him to New York for two weeks. May not be the best time of year to sell him on living in the city....

did I say I didn't like engagement photos?

I'm a gemini. Sue me.

I also love the beard on the groom

He looks natural and unfussy. Not like a Ken doll dressed for the prom.

Groom Style from the South of France

Is this guy actually wearing track pants over his khakis? I don't get it, but somehow he pulls it off...

Okay, I would skip the track pants for the wedding, obviously, but his windswept look is totally sexy. (This one's for you, FH.)
