my *new* new year's resolution (spoiler alert: IT INVOLVES TACOS)

my new year's resolutions are bumming me out.

i do this to myself every year. tell myself i'm going to write every morning, then spiral into depression and anger when i don't write (or don't like what i'm writing) and drink whiskey while watching the bachelor and playing fucking letterpress for four hours in a row just to punish myself.

anyhoo.

here's my new resolution.

EAT TACOS.

try a new taco place once a week, or once a month, or whenever i fucking feel like it.

just. eat. tacos.

the photo is my own, from Tacodeli in Austin, which, HOLY SHIT.

i now plan to eat my way through the 10 Essential LA Tacos. if the rest of the recommends are anywhere near as good as Guisados....

It's your friendly neighborhood AIRPORT BLOGPOST!

Rather than pay $249 for seven hours in a hotel at the Vancouver Airport, H and I have opted to drink coffee instead and DO ALL THE THINGS! ALL NIGHT! until we fly home at 6am tomorrow.

Peoplefriends, I just crossed off an item that had been on my to do list for 228 days.

I'm pretty manic about my to do list on a normal day, but when christmas rolls around and the new year approaches I get MANIC. I really really really really like to cross things off my list. Or, alternatively, delete things from my list. Like, "post radish recipe."

Were more than two of you actually hoping for a radish update?*

I've also been toying with a list of new year's resolutions, but I'm not sure I'm prepared to share them with you. Mostly because they are incredibly boring. I can't get past "Write every morning" and "Exercise every afternoon." If I could find the discipline to do those two things, I'd be the happiest clam in the world. Fuck the to do list.

*If so, here it is: David Lebovitz's recipe is terrific. Use rice vinegar and toss in a whole (unsliced) habenero pepper. Done.

The Art of Bangs

Soooooooo. I started to write up a Resolutions for 2012 post.........

I got as far as "I will learn how to trim my own bangs..." (C'mon. Erin Featherston trims her own bangs every morning. How hard can it be?)

But then my resolutions got all serious/depressing and I made the mistake of asking H for his opinion and we got in this big stupid fight in the middle of the Phoenix airport about whether I'm wasting my time trying to quit drinking coffee and/or whiskey every other month (I think it's helping, he thinks I'm nuts) and whether or not I should go back to the neurologist (NEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGH).

I'm harboring this cracked little California dream that I can cure my headaches with organic food + hot yoga. REMEMBER MY RESOLUTIONS FOR 2010? I had no idea I was heading here, I swear to you.

whoopsies.

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand now you all think I'm a crazy person.

ohwell.

happy new year, you guys!!

Resolutions for 2010

1. I will not refer to myself as an old lady. I may be thirty----, but everyone knows my psychic age is seventeen. I briefly considered celebrating this idea by buying the nude mesh leggings, but alas, they are still ONE HUNDRED AND SEVENTY TWO DOLLARS. Eff that. Will procure $13 zipper leggings at Target or make my own.

Please note: LEGGINGS ARE NOT PANTS. Be sure your ass is covered when you leave the house. And I know you'd never consider wearing leggings as pictured above, even if they had neon zippers with triangle tabs. (Do I sound like an old lady? In 1983-1991 we covered our asses. Is all I'm saying.)

2. I will wear impossibly cool outfits at all times. Even when "popping over" to Trader Joe's (you never know when you'll spot someone you know and be forced to leave without potato chips in order to avoid talking to her), sitting on my ass blogging,* or sitting on my ass watching bad reality TV. Perhaps should also watch less bad reality TV?

3. I will not ---- -- ----. This one's a secret. (Duh.) It's a compulsive habit I have that I would very much like to be rid of. I'm hoping by putting it out there(ish), I can actually cut it out this time.**

4. Um....

5. I will take up yoga, eat organic, stick to a budget. Stop twittering when I'm hanging out with my husband. The usual.

*As of 9:17am on Jan 2, I have already broken this resolution.

**Broke this one yesterday. But I will not be deterred. 2010 is the year I become perfect.

I can't hear you, I'm unplugged.

Here's an overdue new year's resolution:

I will observe the secular Sabbath.

I will step away from the computer, pull out a legal pad and a pen, and tackle some of the legitimate projects that are hanging over my head.*

Then maybe I'll read The New Yorker. In print.

*No offense esb. I love you, but man are you a time suck.

wheeeeeeeee internets!

After an involuntary 10 days unplugged we have finally made our way to Grounded, which New York Magazine describes as a "lumpy-couched, reggae-thumping, plant-strewn hovel." All I care about is the wireless, but I have to admit I was relieved to hear the Smiths when we walked in.

Anyhoo, I miss you guys. I've been happily reading the novel my mom bought me for xmas. (My big new year's resolution is to do more reading offline. I will elaborate later.) But 10 days without internet??

I guess it's kind of like a mental juice fast. When we get home my brain will be skinnier. Maybe I'll start remembering people's names instead of the names of obscure brands of sneakers I find online.
