It Chooses You

A book review from one of my favorite readers:*

Hello fellow Miranda July lover/person I've never met,

I just read her book It Chooses You, a book she wrote about finishing the script for The Future. It was incredibly sad, inspiring, and comforting. I highly recommend it.

I found it to be a great meditation on process and discipline and distraction and muse-chasing.

I bought it at Skylight at 2pm and just finished it now. And I went to the spa and the grocery store with my husband somewhere in the middle, so it's not much of a commitment.

Also, I cried.

*Who am I kidding? You are all my favorite readers.

I've discovered the cure for writer's block

Lie in bed with a pad + pencil on the floor next to you.

That's it.

Just lie there.

Allow yourself to doze.

Pretty soon you'll be writing stuff down, I swear to god.

NOTE: Your phone must be off and way the hell in the other room. No tweeting/checking email. This is an exercise in zen.

plant bulbs in fall for spring flowers

NO I'M NOT GARDENING

It's a metaphor, silly.

And: A new blog of the week(ish).

I've had a blog crush (hell, a crush crush) on SAIPUA for forevs. She runs her own business, she takes gorg photos, SHE DOES NOT SHY AWAY FROM A DANCE PARTY. Blahblahblah.

But what I rly admire is the way Sarah talks directly to ME when I'm surfing the web at 12:39am, looking for Idontknowwhat, a fucking post for tomorrow is what I was looking for, let's be honest. When I really should be getting cracking on my next project.

still haven't sent my Thank You notes....

Hi ESB,

You know who I am, but let's just call me Procrastinator Smith...

OK, so I know you deal with typical pre-wedding stuff, but how about post-wedding questions? Variety is the spice of life, right? RIGHT.

Well, here's a post-wedding question for you: I am embarassingly writing you because my wedding was in October and well, I have yet to send out Thank You notes to my vendors. I am starting to realize that since I procrastinated so much (reason being full-time work and the school year was intense and that I just suck at writing Thank You notes, in general) that I should send them unique 1-year anniversary Thank You notes come October. But since they will be horribly late (according to anyone with common etiquette), I need some MINDBLOWING ideas from your readers so my vendors will think "Oh, so that's why they took so damn long with their Thank You notes!" HELP!

THANK YOU, SUNSHINE!

Sincerely,
Procrastinator Smith

P.S. Pictures of my dude and I in the middle of a field with old furniture or pinwheels or balloons or bunting or fauxstaches on dowels need not apply.

*****

Don't try to blow anyone's mind. Just write the damn thank you notes.

do you pinterest?

It's kind of like tumblr meets twitter meets del.icio.us. I am WAY INTO IT. (As if I needed another time suck.)

I realize I don't post much in the way of wedding decor on the blog anymore -- maybe I ought to change that? -- but I've been pinning some wedding-y decor, as well as rings rings rings (obv), antlers, and the occasional photo of David Bowie.

You can check out my pins here.

p.s. Thanks to Alyson for for inspiring this post.

personality test FAIL

Ilovejezebel inspired me to take this test, and now I'm really pissed off about the results.

I may be a Guardian in that I'm trying to shepherd some of you through the wedding-planning process, but I'm no Mother Teresa. (Or Martha Stewart.) I'm an Artist, GODDAMMIT.

Hey Keirsey, you try and finish a screenplay without setting some motherfucking deadlines. Go ahead.

I don't believe in astrology, but turns out I believe in Colorstrology

This is a new tool designed by Pantone to keep me from getting anything done this morning.

I'm amazed, I have to say. Bright orange is my favorite color. I feel lucky when I wear it. And now Colorstrology tells me wearing orange "reminds you to take action and not get caught up in the world of ideas."

Gotcha. I'll put on an orange t-shirt and turn off the internet.

Via the one I am stalking.
