the search for THE PERFECT BAG

You guys, I'm on a bag hunt.

I suddenly realized I really ought not carry my "I ♥ LA" tote around the Vancouver Film Festival. (Much as I love my I ♥ LA tote. Which I have toted EVERYWHERE for almost two years now.)

This Dry Wax Haversack by Hoi Bo is just about the perfect bag, though I think I want something all black. Mabs they'd do me a custom black leather strap??

It's made of hand-waxed cotton, so it's completely water and dirt-proof, but it's much more lightweight (I'm assuming) than a leather bag. Have you ever toted a leather tote? That shit gets heavy FAST.

The Wet Wax Weekender pretty much slays me, too.

Hoi Bo isn't easy to purchase online, but the lovely ladies are happy to ship internationally if you email them directly.

  3. I don't see why you couldn't take your L.A. tote around Vancouver. People here are from all over and there's quite a number of "I love NYC", "I love Portland", "I love insertplacehere" bags, shirts and buttons around. Though, oddly, never any "I love Vancouver" items.

  4. I agree with Ashley, sport your LA tote with pride around Vancouver. BC can dig it.

  7. I'd totally rock on if it came in a backpack form. I really want a leather one for one for the fall, surprisingly not hard to find one that isn't too Elaine Benes like this. (boo, faux links)

  8. it definitely makes a difference that you're not just going to a film fest, you're screening your film

so, are we talking big-ass-tote or purse?

(actually, you're not even asking for advice, are you?)

    (and what are you wearing??)

  10. @nikki big-ass-tote-purse. must fit big wallet, sunglasses, keys, phone (obv) plus giant bottle of water. and i like to stuff a sweater in there too.

(i totally was asking for advice. just wait until i get to the wtf-should-i-wear posts.)

  11. I love the bag in the photo and it's cheap! Black straps would make it typical. It's a new take on the classic Margiela bag. If you want all black I'd just get the classic Margiela bag.

  12. I bookmarked this a while ago - I'm into convertible-strap bags lately

  13. Nope. I didn't have programs. No one cares. People can be bored if it's a church wedding, they will survive. They get to drink and dance afterwards right? Don't waste your time.

  14. Hmm. Moop has some nice utilitarian and reasonably priced waxed canvas bags. But I like the Hoi Bo's better (just not the prices).

  15. LOVE them both. That bag is like "I'm down with vegenaise, but f*ck if I don't have a sable coat in the closet." Go with the leather straps even though they're not black; it makes the duck cloth a little sexier.

  16. What? You're asking for our help to find you a bag? A bag. That's not exactly important...right?

Do you understand how inconsiderate you are?

    An angry bitch from london?

(Sarcasm obvs and I wish I could help you. If you lived in London I might suggest this?)

  21. Same endless search over here. My budget is measly, but if I had the funds I would hope on that first one in a flash. And I'd keep that nude strap, it's gives it some interest.

  22. If leather is an option, you can't go wrong with Clare Vivier.

  23. I really like the wet wax weekender. I love Makr and usually carry the natural farm tote but for Autumn I'm getting very tempted by this.

  24. Are you opposed to leather? My friend Kristine Gottilla makes dreamy leather bags that range in size from big ass tote purse to even bigger ass tote purse. Like you could get a laptop in there nicely.

I like this one for you

She doesn't have the new line up quite yet:

And you could feel good about supporting a small designer/having something unique etc. She is a cool chick and would even do something custom in terms of matching your leather choice to lining choice.
