Accessorize Me

SO! Thanks in no small part to Celia's recent post, I'm the proud owner of the [above].

It's from the late 40's, smells lovely, and despite how it might look at first glance, is definitely not a nightgown. It could use a belt though (it has loops on the sides) and given that all my best finds lately have been from ESB, I'd love some help on accessories from your readers.

I've been trying to figure out how to work in some worry beads but I don't think it's happening. It'll be a camp wedding in late summer in Maine.

Ralph Lauren is the king of the belted dress, amirite?

I say strap on this vintage RL. What other accessories could you possibly need?

  1. Mmhmm, yes, definitely a leather belt and cute leather ankle booties. And flowers in your hair. You'll look stunning- that dress is beautiful!

  3. what?! sorry, but those leather belts are hideous....

that dress looks so lovely and delicate, why not go for a vintage thin gold belt?

I'm unable to make the nice link work, I don't know why, I tried it 3 times - it made me cross, so please just deal with the long ugly and paste into a new window if you like yellow.

    Merci,

  5. I don't know about a leather belt. Seems kind of heavy for that nice floaty dress.

What about a ribbon? Something bright green or blue or red?

Or (as someone else suggested) a lighter kind of thin gold belt?

  6. vintage filigree belt
(maybe too blingy? but would be beautiful with the dress)

    vintage gold mesh belt

oorr.. (maybe this is crazy) could you somehow wear the worry beads as a belt?

  7. Yes to ribbon (not satin) or thin gold (maybe braided?) leather. Ooh, how about long thin braided ribbon? Too Woodstock?

  8. wahoo!!

yeah, i'm into the leather belt also. but maybe it's because i throw a leather belt over all my vintage dresses. it's my thang.

personally, i'd go with a classic thin braided

a ribbon might be too predictable? but if you like that type of look, you can always tie a vintage scarf around your waist.

    1. Vintage scarf belt FTW.

    2. Yeah, a scarf would be cool - but a thin braided belt would be even better.

  10. Pretty! Yes to belt. I think something gold and leather and vintagey would be cute. and THIN.

  11. If you like a sort of vintage rustic look, I would wear either a VERY thin leather belt (like so?).

I wore a gold braided (leather?) belt at my wedding. Some choices in gold:
    badass but $$$
vintage-like gold belt (I'm not wild about the leaves but like this kind of gold stretchy belt
    skinny gold with bow
    ooh! oh, also $$$
if you like the idea of a tie
a cheaper gold stretchy one (but maybe too modern?)
    BEES!
    gold braided tie

  12. I second Hilary's first option. This dress already has enough going on, the belt shouldn't overpower, but one slim line with a pop of color would be nice. The thing I dislike about the wide RL belts is how they fit. I think they look best a little looser, kind of draped over the hips. This belt needs to be tight, right at the waist and in line with the waist line of the dress. Good luck!

  15. Another possibility is to get a fun vintage belt buckle and a simple leather strap: Mimi Di N has a bunch of fun ones (and some incredibly cheesy ones) that are often available on ebay and etsy. Here are doves , or a pricier fox or an elephant .

  16. I'm far too Greek to accept worry beads as $100 jewelry and not as something people use to keep their hands occupied that generally costs under $10.

  17. Worry beads as belt. I second that. Leather and ribbon, no.

Maybe leather. Lindsay's link makes leather look okaaay. Not super.

  18. not too into the belt idea when the dress already has such a visible waist-seam & is so pretty to start.

get some smaller beads & wrap them on your wrist?

  19. For that dress I'd go with something thin and beaded like this but there are many more variations on etsy.
