DEAR MY LADIES

Dear My Ladies,

(You know who you are.)

You who are sooooooooo close to your wedding day.

You who are freaking out because your face is breaking out/the dress needs last minute alterations/your family is being anything but helpful….

You who are reallllllllllly wishing you'd eloped right about now.

Please picture me out here in the blogosphere with a big ol pair of pom poms cheering for you.*

You will prevail.

You will drink drinks (before and after, if necessary) and you will rock that GODDAMN DRESS and you will be surrounded by friends and family who love you (including your HUSBAND!) (or WIFE!!) and you will think, "oooooooooh, this is what it's all about."

And best of all, when it's over you will be married.

xoxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxo,
ESB

  1. Yes!

You will get through it. The night before my wedding, when I was clearly not drunk enough after my rehearsal dinner, I commented on one of esb's posts about how I wish, wish WISH I'd just eloped. The next evening, lying in bed next to my awesome husband I was so glad I hadn't.

You will love it and, if not, you will survive it and be married.

  2. Dude, I really effing needed this. I have been an emotional wreck for about 3 weeks, and duping it all on my poor fiance. I realized this morning what a jerk I've been and that it is time to chill the eff out. Thanks for the cheerleading, esb.

  3. Seems fitting you're posting this 1 month (exactly!) before my wedding. I've about crossed over into, as I like to steal from that someecard that said it, "Oh look, it's fuck-this-shit-o'clock!"
    THANK YOU!!!

    1. This is awesome. I definitely got to the point of having to decide 'is this REALLY necessary?' Almost every time the answer was NO. And my wedding rocked.

  4. I thought I cared SO HARD about having mismatching vintage chairs at my wedding. We couldn't get anything like that because we live in the middle of nowhere and all the vendors here were like, "WHY? Didn't you see we have perfectly good matching white folding chairs for you? They match!!!"

I was beside myself for 10 minutes and then had to get over it because there was no way around it. And know what? Totally didn't give the chairs a second thought on the wedding day. They could have been the ugliest chairs in the whole world....I was in la-la-land with all my favorite people around me, my new husband, feeling the love and having the time of my life. :)

  5. Yes yes yes. I got married this past Saturday, and all during the week leading up I felt on the verge of puking from all the irrational pressure I was putting on myself. I was especially freaking out about the acne on my face. But you know what? Makeup! And, also, no one cares! All the pukiness and worry went away as soon as I walked into the room where our family and friends were. And my adorable husband standing there. Then, the best party ever. I have red wine teeth in a lot of photos, but again, who cares? I'm f'ing married to my favorite person in the world and we got to share it with the people we love the most.

  7. With 10 days to go, thank you. Whenever someone asks if I'm excited, I shrug and look a bit depressed before realizing that I am. So thank you for the reminder that we are indeed excited about this!

    1. Dude, so much guilt over here about not being OMIGAWWWWWD IM GETTING MARRIED excited about my wedding. People, decision making, depleting my savings, feeling like I'm in a bell jar is just so not my jam.

But, my wedding day was the best day. It went by like a flash and I had so. much. goddamn. fun.

  12. My wedding is 10 days away and this was wonderful.

My emotions are a little haywire. If someone says something hurtful/annoying I want to scream "do you have ANY idea what I'm GOING through?!" and if someone says something sweet or kind I want to hug them and weep on their shoulder.

Neither reaction is really appropriate so it's a bit of a struggle. Also, I want to hug you!

  17. Wow your ability to read my mind is scary.

Can you say something similarly helpful about brides to be that still have three days left of work which will encompass a strike, a disciplinary investigation and various employees who are trying to dump their issues on to me.

  18. i'm not one of your ladies, but i sure as hell could read this every day for the next five months. <3

  20. Oh ESB... do you have a stash of ALL THE RIGHT WORDS that you get to dip in to whenever you want?

If so... can I borrow it sometime?

Really needed this. Thanks for everything along my wedding road that you didn't even know you were doing for me!

  21. "Thank you for writing this just for me!", says the giant zit on my chin that my fiancé and I actually gave a voice to this morning. We made the zit on my face talk 9 days before my wedding. I think it might just last.

  23. ESB YOU ARE MY LADY!!!!!!

I married my husband almost three weeks ago and this sentiment even spoke to my "I'm so glad it's finally over, but I kinda miss the love party and want to party all over again" vibes.

    XO

  26. Dear ESB,

All of us non-engaged or married ladies love you too!

After attending ten weddings this year I have convinced myself that sometime in the future when the gentleman in my life gets his act together that I want to elope. I just paused a second reading everyone's thoughts about what a wonderful experience their weddings were looking back on them and I just may have changed my mind.
