I WANNABE USCHI

dear esb.

i love the golden rolling stones era and would like to go for a look a la anita pallenberg [image 1], bianca jagger, uschi obermaier [image 2] with a modern twist. in reality, I have no clue where to look. I don't seem to be able to find something I like.

maybe genius esb or her adorable readers have some ideas ?

I attached some photos. I am a medium size if that matters, like my legs and decollete - my waist not so much, have blonde wavy hair. we're going to elope (with family) and surprise our friends with an invitation to a wild party afterwards.

THANK YOU <3
Wannabe-Uschi ;)

PS, feel free to correct my bad english

  1. If you are a tiny person, vintage mega-fringe dress. If I was a tiny person I would have bought it already!

  2. love the Erin Fetherston Wrap Dress.

p.s. it's not eloping if you are doing it with family.. you are having a ceremony with only family. eloping literally means running off without the parent's knowledge or consent. believe me, I know, my uncle eloped.

Can we just have a clear up of wedding definitions?
-if you are having an intimate family-only ceremony away from home, it's not eloping.
-if you are getting married where you live but most people are traveling to get there, it's not a destination wedding. it is a wedding with mostly out of town guests.

    1. What if you are getting married with only yourself and spouse-to-be present at city hall, but you have the full support and consent of your family and friends? I have been referring to my wedding as an elopement but maybe its just the world's tiniest wedding?

    2. which is also something that is deeply cool to say about your wedding :)

    3. hm, yeah. maybe the traditional definition of eloping is changing, but then how do you differentiate people who actually ran off and got married to people who have planned a tiny intimate ceremony?

it just rubs me the wrong way when you see elopements as a new trendy thing all over wedding blogs, and so people start planning 'elopements' when really they are usually having an intimate ceremony with a few family members. Why it has turned trendy, I don't know. If you have ever experienced a family member eloping than you know it is really hard for the rest of the family. And it also usually implies that the family wouldn't approve, or the couple doesn't care enough to tell them until after.

    4. i concur, anon 10:45 and 11:26. little weddings with knowledge/consent are excellent, but they are not elopements (which are sans parents' knowledge/consent). evolving definitions are well and good, but in this case expanding "elopement" makes the term functionally meaningless.

in dress news! i think the '70s halston could be forgiving. it sounds like i'm built like wannabe-uschi (a size 8 US), and in her place, i'd order the erin fetherston, take advantage of piperlime's liberal return policy if it doesn't work, and then buy the halston. w-u, if the halston in turn doesn't work, i'll buy it FROM you. that dress is so fay wray it kills me.

  4. Off topic, but I just have to say, thanks for not moderating the shit out of the comments. I just had an experience on another popular wedding site that left a really bad taste in my mouth.

And if you choose to delete this because of whatever personal/professional reason, I understand, but I had to try.

    2. I know, I appreciate that. I like your posts and the comments.

On that other site, they edited my comment to change the content and tone, but didn't indicate that they'd done that. I commented again, saying that I didn't like that and that most places who edit comments write a note saying that the comment has been edited. They deleted all of my comments. Gross. And it's not in the comment policy either.

Anyway, no wonder all the comments on there always sound kind of the same.

  7. Spot on picks, esb. The Erin Fetherston is like the perfect modernized version of the one Uschi is wearing, and that Lover dress is BEYOND. In my next life where I'm a designer size 6...

However, on the topic of needing to be a fox, I'm pretty sure the free people would cover a multitude of sins and still look fab, as long as Wannabe has a nice rack and ties it the way they did in the pic you chose.

Now I need to go put extra long fringe on everything.

    1. Agreed that the free people does not require mega hotness. I also think a variety of body types could pull off the vintage Halston.

  8. Hello, it's Uschi. Thank you all very much for the inspiration. I fell in love with the Erin Fetherston dress. I knew you could help. (By the way: I am a long time reader and fan. It was me who posted the crazy Berlin wedding and Oh Land in her spider overall) Have a nice day, ESB& readers ;)
