Seeking: Rehearsal Dinner Dress, Size 16

Dear ESB,

I had a fight with the woman who was making my rehearsal dinner dress and we decided that canceling the order was the best course of action.

She made changes without telling me and then when I asked her to undo the changes, she told me that she would rather sell the dress to someone who would appreciate it.

Anyway, my wedding is about a month away and I am trying to find a dress. I am looking for a reasonably priced (under $200) white lace shift. I am hugely busty and generally wear a 16 everywhere else. I have looked around and not been able to find what I'm looking for in my size.

I was hoping you might have some ideas for me. I ordered a couple of things from ASOS, but they're not quite right. Oh, also I'm 38 and need something age-appropriate, but not frumpy.

Thank you!

Gah.

Will this peaches and cream Diane von Furstenberg fit you??

Because it is awesome.

  1. Yeah, I never quite got the 'wear white to everything' idea for brides. If you're set on it, OP, then go for it. But I like ESB's suggestion, especially with a nice big chunky necklace (in white?).

  2. dorothyperkins.com has stylish dresses up to size 18, most under $100

    1. ESB, the dress you suggested is 100% polyester...

But at least it's vintage, I suppose?

    2. was just a bridesmaid in a wedding where a fellow BM ordered a bunch of dorothy perkins dresses to choose from... and EVERY ONE she received was the wrong size (not what she ordered). now the company is trying to make her pay the customs fees to return them all. BOO.

  3. I wore olive green shorts and a black t-shirt to my rehearsal dinner, so, maybe I won't weigh in on this one

    2. I wore black jeggings and a black shirt because I was so stressed out and they were the first thing in my closet. we also ordered pizza though so.. I am also unqualified.

    3. I didn't have a rehearsal dinner (or a rehearsal for that matter). We went to a fish shack the night before, and I don't even remember what I wore...

  4. I love the dress ESB suggests. If OP doesn't buy it, I very well might. I think it'd be perfect for the bridal shower my aunts are throwing.

  5. I want to wear white, because my wedding dress is silver.

Wrap dresses look horrible on me! Tea-length is terrible.

    Dorothy Perkins dresses are uber-chincy.

Vintage is fine, polyester is fine.

    1. You sound like you have a pretty clear idea of what you want in your head. I'm guessing most suggestions here will also be "not quite right".

    2. And, you are aware that you can HEM IT, right??

  6. That dress will not fit my bust, I need 44"!

  7. I wore a burnt orange (persimmon?) dress. It was the dress I was wearing when he proposed, which made it special and bridal to me without being white.

TL;DR That DvF is fantastic, please buy it and alter to perfection.

OP, if you go with your original plan, how about this or (slightly over budget) this?

    1. Oh you were responding while I was typing, so you won't like the second tea length option.

  11. This doesn't match any of your requirements (except it's the right size and it IS lace, so whatever, as Meatloaf said, "Two out of three aint bad"). Also, it is HOT.

    Vintage lace 3/4 sleeve awesomeness
