two things.

1. This dress is bonkers.

2. The bride and groom are gorgeous, &c. But.... I wish there were more photos of them WITH THEIR EYES OPEN. D'you think they are just shy, or can I blame the photographer? This feels like a disturbing new trend.

IT'S NOT A LOOKBOOK, PEOPLE. IT'S A WEDDING.

  1. The dress IS bonkers! I THINK they are a hot couple, but I can't tell because their eyes are closed. Seriously? If this is a new trend, then I hate it...

I mean... What is going on with all of these new "trends"? I am all for changing it up because I am SO over the cookie cutter wedding bullshit, but really... open your damn eyes, don't have morning after pictures have a morning after brunch, enough with the cupcakes and definitely be open minded to the people trying to help...

  2. Hear hear on the eyes-shut photos - they always seem weirdly staged to me.

But otherwise the photos are just stunning.

  3. I told you so...

  4. maybe she's just extremely shy?

  5. This is just as bad as "first look" photos. Wait, no it's not, at least those cheesy couples look happy that it's their wedding day. Maybe they are just really worried about red eye.

    1. Aw, don't say that! My first look photos are some of my favorite ones to go back and look at.

  6. Did someone die at the wedding? Maybe they are really sad.

    1. Maybe they are star-crossed lovers from fair Verona...

  7. I think her eyes are closed in the rear view shot too!

YOU ARE NOT IN AN ANTHRO CATALOG, KNOCK IT THE FUCK OFF.

  8. let's be clear, though: if someone takes a Group of Groomsmen w/Eyes Closed photo, i will make it into a tee shirt.

  9. maybe they're shy? i tend to put my head down in photos and lower my eyes because i'm not super comfortable in front of the camera. in so many of our wedding photos i am looking down in a pseudo-coy way which was not my intent. we were on a wedding blog and somebody even commented on it! they legit said, "why does the bride keep hiding her face?"

    1. i do that same looking down thing because i also hate having my picture taken, and my eyes are also not visible in many of my wedding photos... but this is definitely not that. this is a photographer being a weirdo and as a result, ruining what could have been a great photo.

  10. Maybe they are telepathically conversing.

    1. i agree, i think they are trying to jointly channel some dead people.

  11. Yeah, it looks weird/awkward when they both have their eyes closed, definitely. Also, I adore that dress.

I think there's a difference between really contrived/pose-y eyes closed and a moment that happens naturally, which can look sweet.

  12. seriously like 90% of their photos, their eyes were closed. although they both looked amazing, i couldn't help but laugh at how ridiculous their weird eye closing was.

    1. I just viewed the gallery too. That is crazy, her eyes REALLY are closed in like every frickin' picture!

  13. maybe they are going for the turn-of-the-century death photo look. very vintage. :)

  14. My photographers directed us to take a couple of "eyes closed" pictures. I wasn't sure about them, but did it anyway since I loved their style. Those pictures turned out so awful. Both my husband and I have scrunched eyes and a WTF look on our faces.

Anyway, I'd bet $ that they went with the photographers direction on this. And yes, her dress is slamming. Maybe there are eye open pictures not on the interwebs?

  15. my money is on the photographer directing them - pity...has made their otherwise gorgeous wedding/photos look tacky and awkward

  16. seriously, why wouldn't these people smile at each other in their own wedding photos?? how odd! i hope they don't read this but it kind of looks like they were photographed in the middle of a sad breakup conversation....

(Note to photogs: make sure the couple smiles!)

and am i the only one who thinks elbow patches are misplaced on a wedding suit?

    1. No, you are not. It screams, "Look, I have elbow patches! That makes me "vintage" and cool, right?? Come on, you know I'm right. Ours is the best 'modern peasant'* wedding! ELBOW PATCHES at my WEDDING!"

  17. They were possibly directed by the photog but if you look at the whole gallery, the groom has his eyes open in a lot of photos but the bride is eyes-closed about 95% of the time. I really think she must be shy or uncomfortable being photographed. Which is too bad because she is very beautiful.

  18. Do shy women wear dresses with such an open back like that?

    1. There are many kinds of shyness.
I think it's the photographer personally.

    2. i concur, anon 10:37, in all seriousness. i, for example, am front-shy, and would totally wear a backless dress.

  19. Yes to that dress! Tashina who designed it is one of the sweetest people in the world.

  20. I need to see more of this dress before I decide if its good or not, its looking a bit too peasanty for my taste, and seriously with the eyes closed? Okay okay, I get it, you're ROMANTEEK. awesome.

  21. maybe it's one of those "closed-eyes first-looks" things. probably not as that would be equally obnoxious.

    ReplyDelete
  22. yeah definitely the photographer directing them to close their eyes. Her portfolio is full of A LOT of eyes closed pictures... I'm hoping that's just what she chooses to show and not what a client gets in the end.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Yeah, I think that if there eyes were open in the 2nd photo it would be even more beautiful. Shame.

  24. I don't mind eyes closed in photos as long as it looks like it was on purpose and not merely an accident. There needs to be a nice selection of eyes open before any eyes closed photos.
