Is this appropriate to wear to a casual wedding this summer? I want to get something I'll wear again - you know - in regular life.

*****

  1. Oh, hell no. Unless by "casual" you mean "at the beach." Then whatever.

  2. Is the wedding at a nightclub? If it is then it's okay.

  3. In my experience (20+ weddings in the past 3 years) there is always at least one girl wearing what my friends and I have not so cleverly deemed a "slut dress." Wear this to even a casual wedding at a night club on a beach and consider yourself the slut dress of the evening. Congrats.

  4. with a long, lightweight cardy? and small boobs.
too much boobage - highway to slutland.

  6. NO. If the wedding is this casual, wear something from your closet instead of a new (tacky) $200 dress.

    1. Plus: yes! If th wedding is flip flops and tank top dresses casual then totally save $$ and wear something you already own and like.

  7. Am I the only one who thinks this dress is not particularly slutty? But I do think it's too casual even for a casual wedding. And besides that, it looks cheap even if it does cost $200.

  8. I for one am appalled at all these girls calling girls sluts. Just kidding. Please don't wear that dress. Anyone. Ever.

Plus didn't American Apparel make that dress for a fraction of the price around the same time Paper Planes was cool?

    1. This made me laugh. A lot.

And that dress is just so barely not a tank top that...no.

  9. Body-conscious + low scoop neck + no sleeves + mini mini skirt + wedding = NO.

  10. Oh, fuck all the slutty whore comments.

I think the dress is both quite ugly and definitely cheap looking (esp for $200!)
But that wasn't the question: appropriate for a casual wedding? Depends:

    - how casual? Will you be wearing flip flops? If so, then yeah, probably appropriate enough. (but since you are asking, I'm guessing you are not confident it will be a'flip flop casual' wedding). If it is more sundresses and light trousers&button downs casual, then NO, not appropriate.

    - how tall / busty etc ae you? I don't know your life, but I know my chest: stuff that links fashiony on my small breasted little sis can look very ATTENTIONGRABBYLOOKATME on me. Which is not appropriate for a wedding, casual or otherwise.

But I bet you can find a better option that you will wear gain and don't need to second guess.

  11. Am I the only one who likes this? I think it's fine for a casual wedding, and certainly if you're built somewhat like that model. BUT, I kinda agree with the shop the closet idea. I know I have plenty of cute dresses for casual weddings.

  12. You can criticize a dress without calling it "slutty." That just sounds like my grandma. Also, I don't understand why people care what each other are wearing so much, especially at a casual event. Why would you spend any time concerned with who looks the most slutty at a wedding? Sounds like a trite way to spend your time at an event.

Lots of women wore tight, strapless, mini-dresses to my wedding. My aunts, who look like sister-wives, might have been taken aback a little, but near the end of the night everyone was dancing with each other and it was amazing.

    1. Indeed. The "slutty" thing is really bothering me today (slow news day for me I guess).

"dear ESB, is "slutty whore prostitute" an appropriate response to a query about casual wedding attire? Thx!"

Although I suppose OP got an answer in that if you are concerned about "appropriateness" It is a question of what others' perceptions will be - whether those perceptions speak to the casualness of the outfit, its fashion merits (guilty), or, you know, the moral fibre of your vagina.

    2. I'm glad I'm not the only one who was bothered. I just cringe at the word "slut" because of the way it has been used against women throughout history. "Appropriate" can mean many things without necessarily meaning modesty, especially strictly defined modesty.

  13. Throw a short- or 3/4-length sleeve button down under it, make sure the shoes aren't sky-high (maybe a mini-wedge?) and be careful how you sit. I think it's fine, but it's been done better, with more leeway towards unquestionably fine, and cheaper, elsewhere.

  14. Maybe I don't have as much fashion training as everyone else but I don't think it looks that slutty or that bad. It doesn't show too much chest and depending on how long your legs are (that model has REALLY long legs!) it's not thaaat short.

  15. OP here. DAAAYYYM glad I asked. Somehow the whole slut factor escaped me. With my chest it probably would be a bit much. K, just saved $200 bucks and am now shopping my closet. So thanks for that.

But for the record, if a bunch of fat bitches need someone to call The Slut of The Wedding, I’m happy to play that part!

  16. I don't see what the big deal is. It doesn't have universal appeal, but it looks fine.
