Greetings from Sunny Florida!

Where we still haven't called it for Obama. (Miami-Dade went to bed early last night?? wtf.)

H and I are visiting my mom in St. Petersburg, which is actually a pretty a cool little city…. except for the fact that the people are so fucking friendly

I DON'T LIKE TALKING TO PEOPLE.

I almost had a temper tantrum when my mom told me she made plans for us to go sightseeing with one of her friends this afternoon. (See: I DON'T LIKE TALKING TO PEOPLE.)

I think my introversion is getting worse.*

love,
me

p.s. GOBAMA! Graphic via the nytimes.

  1. Honestly, I felt like a bit of a freak until I knew what an introvert was. I'm pretty sure both my siblings are introverts as well. We love each other, but more than 3 days of all day every day together time and we start getting ragey.

Also, I'm pretty sure I married my husband because he is somehow exempt from my introvertness. Being around him is the same as down time by myself.

  2. Now that I know my introversion is a legitimately recognized thing, I love that I can pull that card whenever I need to. Like when my boyfriend makes me go to his huge work parties, I only have to meet 5 people before its completely acceptable that I go off into a corner and ignore the world!

P.s. YAY Obama, Yay Washington, Minnesota, Maine, and Maryland, and Tammy Baldwin. Yay!

  3. Michael made me watch a TED talk about introverts once. It was boring. :)

I love the other maps at that NYT link. Look at the shift from 08. You can see where all the Mormons live (JK but check out Utah).

The "size of lead" map is all fuck yeah Chicago (and LA)!

  4. Figuring out the whole "people exhaust me" thing has been life-changing. I don't hate people, I just am not at my best when forced to interact with many of them at once ;-)

    1. I've been reading Susan Cain's book. (My mom bought it for me, actually.) It's a little dry, but interesting.

    2. I tried explaining introverts to my mom, and telling her that we were likely introverts ourselves, and she was all "But I LIKE people."

  5. I live in St. Pete and LOVE it here but you're right - the people are freakishly friendly. And this is coming from a girl who grew up in NORTH DAKOTA.

on the internet, nobody knows you're a robot.

i once ended a column for the college paper (about, among other things, whether or not i was a bald, freakish robot) with "besides, robots don't need money." i liked that one.

  7. Miami-Dade didn't go to bed early last night; people were still in line waiting to vote at 1 a.m.

  9. I'm that rare, cranky Floridian neighbor who looks at you funny for waving when I drive by after sharing the same street for 15+ years....

  11. I am from South FL and remember people always being VERY unfriendly... go to the east coast! (it's uglier, but unfriendly) lol

  12. I maybe a little late to the party here, but if you are still in St. Pete check out the Post Card Inn! We were married there a year and a half ago. I'm originally from Florida but lived in NYC (Brooklyn to be exact) for the past 10 years.
I was stressed that my Florida wedding would be beyond tacky for the lack of anything cool since I am brain washed by "Bklyn Style". Boy was I wrong! PCI is the best little hotel on the East Coast. They have an awesome beach bar too.....
