Is it okay to send a save-the-date postcard? (part two)

This post got a lot of comments defending postcards. From people who sent postcards. But I can't resist reposting this one (just in from Lauren):

so as it turns out, some family friends of ours have a daughter getting married the weekend after us. they sent the save the date postcard... they asked my mom if she got it. she didn't. she mistakenly threw it away while trying to get rid of junk mail.

envelopes win.

  1. It pains me to admit this, but we sent Save the Date postcards and some of them didn't even make it to the addressees. They were beautifully designed and on heavy stock and gorgeous and...not always in the mailbox. But we wanted to save paper! And reference the vacation spot where we were tying the knot. PS. I'm an east-sider myself and a big fan of the blog (I got married last month and remain VERY excited to see it on my google reader). PPS. Our RSVP postcards were over-sized and all came back.

  2. How 'bout really saving paper and not send save-the-dates at all??? Until I started reading wedding blogs I didn't even know what save-the-dates were. I think out there in the real world, most people don't care.

  3. We had post card reply cards and they got totally trashed in the mail - I'm glad my guests didn't have to see them. srlsy I don't know what goes on at the post office, but the ones I got back were demolished - and some people said they sent theirs but we never got 'em, probably because the addresses got torn off or stomped on or something. Nasty.

  5. i'm with nina! why do you need paper save the dates at all?? we did electronic invite and asked folks to rsvp with their mailing address...

we did use RECYCLED paper envelopes for our invitation, but made the invite 2 sides: back side had our wedding website w/ directions, etc. and we had an RSVP postcard. yes, postcard...no problems!

save the paper with the save the dates!!

  9. The same thing is true of RSVPs . . . we did post card, just cuz I thought they were cute. I had to call quite a few people to see if they were coming or not, but they had sent the card back and I just never got it. (and I didn't throw any out with junk mail as I had them sent to a PO Box) . . . apparently some just didnt make it!

  12. what i want to know is, what exactly do these postcards look like if people are mistaking them for junk mail? i don't think i've ever seen a save the date that even slightly resembles a coupon to frontier wok... but, maybe that's just me. we sent post cards and had absolutely no problems.
