I also must mention

The Echo Park Time Travel Mart, LA's answer to the Pirate Supply Store.

Both are non-profit ventures that support writing/tutoring centers for students ages 6 to 18.

The Time Travel Mart really must be seen to be believed. It's like a tiny museum.

  2. I *heart* that shop SO much! Went there once and the woman at the counter was dressed as a barbarian. After wandering, I read aloud "barbarian repellant" off a bottle and giggled. Without missing a beat, the woman said "I hate that stuff!" HA!
PLUS, its right across from Rodeo Grill, my fave place for chilaquiles con huevos! Yay for Echo Park!

  3. Yay for the Time Travel Mart shout out! One of my good friends helped create the store (and the products) and I will make sure to let him know he has a fan.

  4. Oh cool. I didn't know they had one in LA now. Over Christmas, to Echo Park I will venture. I must also give a shout out to the Brooklyn Superhero Supply store.

    Fricking good.

But not quite as good as the pirate store.

  5. Here in Boston, 826 has a Bigfoot Research Institute. You have to see it to believe it.

  7. I'm just flipping through your archives and should mention that here in Seattle we have a Space Travel Supply Store by the 826 folks. Last I was in there, you could buy fake mustaches in every shape and color. Even the martians have picked up the mustache trend now...
