Hahahah

little rat brain

rats and their damn documents.

creating a GOMI thread about ESB

mean and offensive

a place for saying mean BS

Get over your mean, hipster self.

Ugh god

               you should just stop

Please show us more sticks to hang random shit off of in your house.

The title came off as offensive, and for that I genuinely apologize. "White girl problems" popped into my head and it seemed sort of funny. I hesitated, I considered "first world problems," I read this whole thread. I browsed over here. I realized it's a really old joke. Also: Not very funny. And then I used it anyway. (Surprise! It wasn't very funny.)

The post was intended to be tongue-in-cheek. As in: Your life sounds pretty good! My life is pretty good. Aren't we lucky to have these "problems"?

You guys should know by now that my advice will always be more of the GET THE FUCK OVER IT variety than the Dear Sugar variety. Doesn't mean I love you any less.

  1. From now on, if you get a question you don't want to answer for the frillionth time, maybe you just shouldn't make a post about it. Or just make a post linking to one of the frillion posts you've already made about it before.

    Just a thought.

    1. hey maybe if you want to run this blog for her, you go make a blog. or stop reading. just a thought

      GL!

    2. Honestly my advice came from a place of concern for ESB and that she should know that she shouldn't have to answer the same question a billion times over just because she runs this blog. So calm your damn tits.

    3. Question: Is there a blog that is as good or (even almost as good) as ESB but where the blogger is actually still interested in weddings?

  2. Whoa! That got crazy real quick. Honestly, the get-the-fuck-over-it advice is what I loved during wedding planning. It keeps you grounded when you start obsessing over table runners as if it has any impact on your pending marriage. If you want sweet advice for your feelings, go to any of the tons of wedding blogs out there. If you can't handle a fuck you post every now and then, feel free to stop reading.

    1. There's a big difference between "get the fuck over it" to table runners and "get the fuck over it" to wanting your partner to commit to you in the way that feels right to you. She should be so lucky to obsess over table runners.

  3. I still love you and your blog.

  5. Fuck you, ESB.

Just kidding. I thought your advice to that girl was shit, but that doesn't make you shit. I still get excited when I see a new post from this blog in my reader.

    1. Yep. That advice was horrid but I still like you. Every entry can't be a gold fuckin' star.

    2. I agree! (About the advice being horrible as well as about loving when I see a new post from this blog in my reader).

  7. wow. i just read over the thread from the last post and i am totally speechless. i have two things to say.

    1. as a very non-white girl (have to make that clear seeing as someone mentioned being "sort of not white", or whatever), i wasn't the least bit offended by the title of that post. maybe it's because i know you, and i understood what you meant by it. maybe it's because sometimes things on the internet can read wrong.

    2. it is one thing to call someone out if you're offended by something they've said. it something else ENTIRELY to be mean and vicious back. two wrongs do not make a right. even my two year old is slowly but surely learning that lesson, so i'm pretty shocked that some of the readers who wrote those comments don't understand such a basic principle.

esb is a real person with real emotions. her posts and her writing reflect that, and it is why i have read this blog for years and why i will continue to do so. call me crazy, but that's what sets her apart from all the cookie-cutter blogs out there. but hey, if super-saccharin-happy-times is what you're looking for in a blog, then you shouldn't have too much of a problem finding it. those blogs are EVERYWHERE. the ESBs of the internet are few and far between.

    ok, that's three things.

    xxo

    1. so condescension doesn't count as a wrong-not-making-a-right?

i don't think anyone reading esb expects saccharin, but there's a difference between black coffee served with a cool air, and burnt grounds being thrown in your face.

isn't OP is a real person with real emotions too? and some things on the internet can be read wrong (like "y'all")?

i appreciate esb too and don't want her to GOMI. i get that you guys are friends and i get why you defend her. but i thought she deserved the heat. she is the blogger, the one with the platform and the voice and the following (not to mention the sponsors). the one entrusted with our (sometimes tender) questions.

    2. can someone please explain the offense from 'y'all' to me? I'm foreign and I'm not getting it?

      Delete
    3. @anonymous 6:50: i'm not foreign and i really don't get it either. as far as i know, it's a term used in southern states that people of all races say. so yeah, not sure where people are going with that one.

  8. I'll probably get pilloried for this, but I agreed with ESB's advice. Then again, I'm Australian (getting married has fewer tangible benefits here - especially regarding taxes, healthcare, next of kin etc), have no particular personal inclination to get married, and work in the wedding industry.

In any case, ESB, please don't go. You provide a modicum of sanity in an otherwise pretty ridiculous field.

    1. Yes. Also Aussie and also thought the advice, albeit blunt, was to the point.

  9. What a load of shit! People read ESB for a reason, right? they read it because they know ESB won't hold you to her breast and tell you it's all going to be alright, when clearly... it won't.

The whole point of what she was saying, was that there is no definitive way of "getting over a feeling". Also asking someone who IS married about how to get over this feeling is ridiculous.

    Anonymous commentors suck ass.

  10. I've been reading here for a couple of years as a not-married, not-even-engaged person looking for someone to offer some sanity on the topic of weddings. I appreciate your perspective on weddings, on how great yoga is even though talking about it makes you sound like an asshole, on hanging lights from wang-shaped hooks. And I appreciate that when you make a mistake you can apologize for it.

My partner and I have stood up in 8 weddings in the past 2 years. We are going to 7 weddings this year. As much as I love sharing in my friends' joy and love and celebrations, ESB helps me get through the countless conversations about their centerpieces, or tablecloths, or appetizers, or whatever particular starch they're cutting out 6 months before the wedding. Your blog makes me feel a) like it's ok that IDGAF about these details of my friends' weddings, and b) that I'm not the only woman in the world who feels this way.

Please don't let the reactions to your last post deter you from sharing your perspective.

  11. ESB wrote an offensive post? Stop the press!

Yeah, it was a shit title. I still love you though.

  12. I read the post, didn't think anything was wrong with the title or the advice. This is ESB. Really surprised people got this bent over it. Meh...I'll keep reading.

    1. Why don't you google it and find out?

Keep up the good work, ESB! I love a good "Get the fuck over it!" bit of advice when it's necessary.

  14. I think everyone should just GET THE FUCK OVER IT. If you don't like it, don't read it. Problem solved.

  15. I still think we need an ESB message board.

  16. don't overthink it, go with your gut.

let's chalk it up to poor life choices and move on.

even when it's a shitshow it's entertaining as hell.

  17. Ok, I clearly missed something. But I'm getting the feeling this is another Glittergate.

    Jesus.

  18. You guys, seriously, lighten the fuck up. ESB 4 EVER

  19. Ok, it was bad advice and a bad title, but this site is so much more than just ESB's advice. It's basically a forum, and I for one REALLY value the insightful, hilarious community I've found in the comment section of this blog. Some of my best internet friendships were started here. Suggesting that ESB should GOMI because of one "off" post is crazy talk. She's a real person with good days and bad days, and that's why we love her, and that's why we all feel comfortable here. It's pretty much the one place on the whole internet where you can come to get a good firm-but-loving-bitch-slap with no sugar-coating when you need it the most.
