SEEKING: this Dolce for 2K or less

Dear ESB,

Terrified by the thought of wearing a white poofy/strapless/sweat heart/trumpet/cupcake gown, I have been looking and looking for a unique gown that still reads wedding. I've seen great alt bridal at Stone Fox, Bona Drag, etc. but I'm 5'8'', size 6 with a lot of T (34DD) and A so a drop-waist, plunging neck, backless, slip something isn't going to cut it.

I stalked this Dolce number online and knew it would be love. I tried it on and it was PERFECT. The floral print practically became my vision for my September farm wedding in Maine. The ruching was really flattering. It was the perfect amount of sexy and everything was contained.

Coming back to Earth -- this dress is 5,000. My budget is 2,000 or less. I can't spend the champagne money on this dress. I'm back on the hunt, but not sure I'll find anything as unique. I'm also in a bit of time crunch (wedding is end of Sept 2013).

Thoughts??

thnx a mill!

WHO FEELS LIKE SHOPPING??

I'm busy obsessing about tables. We marked it out on the floor, and it seems my perfect perfect perfect table is too deep for the space. (Not too long, but too DEEP.) Sadface. I'm thinking we might have to go the custom route...

  1. This is NOT the same... but I think it would flatter your figure and it's pretty much in the budget: Erdem Long Floral Print Dress

Maybe? I really like the Dolce, but we all know you can't just go doubling your budget. This isn't say yes to the dress. Good for you for not just buying it anyway!

  3. On the table-front, it isn't exactly the same, but Room and Board will custom make a table to your exact dimensions. At least you measured first - I bought a couch last year that I had to have cut in half to fit in my apartment!

  4. Dont knock the source! it is the same shape, just not floral... and not d&g

      The D&G is rayon.

rayon is totally better than satin. but still meh.

    5. OF COURSE you can find the same shape dress in IVORY at David's Bridal. You're missing the point.

    6. And yet none of the other dresses are the same shape. Her letter made it sound like she wanted a similar shape. I doubt a vomitus green and pink floral with an empire waistline would flatter her as much. The fact that is is satin SUCKS and I should have noticed that. It would however double her champagne budget...

  5. I like tables more than dresses. Have you considered the Blu Dot Strut Table in Medium? Its only 28" deep. Sadly that means it's also just smaller overall.

    2. We have the coffee table in white, if you want to see real life pics. I always wanted the table or desk size but didn't have space, so I settled on the coffee table. I'm sort of pissed you can get it in Navy now.

  8. Another Erdem. Just under budget and silk. Different color, but still floral, farm-like, with a "timeless" feel and something of a mini puddle "train" to boot. If you're keen on having a "something blue", it could maybe do that trick also?

  11. I think you have a few options here. First, if you love the print and colors of the dress, I found the Dolce dresses that are similar in print/color but are short dresses:
    Dolce 1
    Dolce 2

    Other floral options:
My favorite: Vivienne Westwood (or this or this)
    Gucci
    Monique Lhuillier
    Mother of Pearl

Non-floral long options with a similar vibe:
    Biyan
    Alice by Temperly

  12. A few half-hearted suggestions ... the original as too amazing too match. Bravo to your strength -- I don't think I'd be able to walk away form it.

  15. You could buy this lovely Roland Mouret and add fabric to turn it into the full mermaid evening gown look? He does actually make the full-length version of this gown but I imagine it is out of your budget, and I can't find it.

  17. rent the runway? OR I bet you could find a dressmaker to give you that same shape in a great floral print for $2K

  18. I own Bride boutique in Echo Park, CA. We specialize in Vintage, Eco, independent and custom wedding dresses at affordable prices. I could probably make this dress for you with the same exact shape, but different floral fabric for about $1500 depending on the fabric. Visit brideboutiquela.com for more if or email me at Info@brideboutiquela.com

  21. If you've been stalking the dress for awhile, I'm sure you already know this, but just in case... It looks like your original dress is on sale now. Still not under $2,000, but much closer. Anyway you could squeeze $900 from somewhere else in your budget? We did a ton of things ourselves (i.e. flowers, music) so that we could afford the wedding we wanted. Might be worth it to pull $$ from somewhere else!

  22. I got the dress!!!!!! It went on sale and I took it as a sign. Will find the $900 elsewhere. Also, I bought it with a Nordstrom credit card so I get free alterations (only hemming needed) and ~300 in gift card back. It was a memorial day weekend miracle!

    Thanks for your recommendations everyone.

  23. Take the picture to a dressmaker who specializes n formal gowns. Get measured, buy fabric. Dress can be made for you custom for under $2000. I made my own wedding dress with the most expensive silk, lined n silk, too, and fabric was $400. I'm not a dressmaker, but I can sew. This picture is not a difficult style for an experienced dressmaker. Get what you want and get it to fit you perfectly!
