find my perfect dress

East Side Bride,

I am in desperate need of your keen eye. I am a fashion photographer in Seattle and have been searching for my wedding dress. I want to be comfortable but look modern and sleek. Of course my crew of stylists have their own opinions on what I should wear and everything I pick out they think is not "formal" enough.

I'm definitely drawn to a gorgeous open back and also in love with this Stella McCartney
[pictured above]. I loathe anything traditional bride and can't even step one foot into the tulle world of bridal salons. I'm getting married in October in Palm Springs on an old artists colony on the side of a mountain.

Please help me find something "indian summer modern" and put my fashionistas to rest.

I owe you.

Dude, buy the Stella. Who gives a crap about some *Seattle* fashionistas??

  3. Exactly. Wear some dang gold shoes if formality is important.

  4. I love the Stella too! Follow your gut, because obviously your gut has great taste! Your friends will be silenced once they see you in it, kicking ass.

  5. Dude, everyone and their mother is going to have opinions on what you should or shouldn't do for your wedding. The sooner you start ignoring that shit the better.

  6. I agree with everyone, but just to add some conversation to this post: I sometimes regret that my dress wasn't more...something.

I don't think it needed to be more formal so much as I don't feel like it was special enough.

    1. i hear you on that, hillary. i had no problem with my dress (which was very, very simple), but if i had the choice to make over again i would choose something like this.

    2. Agree. Doesn't matter what the dress is, but it should feel really special to you, I think. Mine was... fine. I was rushed. It was good enough and I'm plus size, so I didn't really have a choice.

If this dress feels special and awesome then its perfect.

    3. same here. I was a bit rushed and sort of settled on something I didn't love. I did love wearing a SHORT dress though.

Also, as a Seattle-O myself I had to laugh at the *Seattle* fashionistas remark.

    4. Maggie is right. Seattle fashionista = AN OXYMORON.

  7. Everyone told me a short dress was a bad idea. So I got worried and almost went with this long flowy thing that was NOT me.

My short dress rocked. Go with your gut.

  10. The Stella is so good.
I loved my dress at the time, I don't love it now (don't regret it, just don't love). So many people seem to have the same experience. That would have been a good thing to be aware of when I was looking, it would have made the whole decision so much easier.

  11. I feel like with an A+ head piece, shoes, and/or accessories you could convince them that this dress is for you.n People don't see it until it's all together. Focus on getting it properly styled and they'll see the light.

  12. I am sorry, a wedding on the side of a mountain in an artists colony just is not *that* formal. Your friends are wrong (and also it doesn't matter as the other commenters have said, but in this case it especially doesn't because they are wrong).

  13. Just make sure you try this one before you get your heart set on it. I work at Stella and I also wanted to wear this dress for my wedding this summer but the top is not very flattering if you have even medium sized boobs and or wide shoulders. That being said, on the right body type it would look amazing! Hope it works out for you.

    1. I might be in the minority here, but that dress doesn't look like it'd be flattering on ANYONE except for the kate moss types.

  14. Late to the party on this one... but this dress has fringe and is silk and is under $200.
