dear esb: i ignored your advice

me again

pined for the dress for 2 more months. so i finally ordered it. heard nothing from the seller for 29 days. filed non-delivery claims. found a traditional dress in a real bridal store. put it on hold. cried over not wanting a traditional dress. told them i didn't want it. bought a different non-traditional dress. loved it. wasn't the same. then heard back from the seller. she'd had a family emergency. sent my dress immediately! but i got the flu. and either didn't hear the doorbell. or the mailman truly never rang the bell. but i was home that day. all day. no really. 11 days later, still had the flu. finally made it to the P.O. for my package. 7 days earlier it had been sent back to mexico. F the P.O.

so my question is: can i re-order it? ;-)

*****

I want to tell you no, but I'm having trouble coming up with a suitable replacement.

(I spent exactly 43 minutes looking this morning, from 5 to 5:43am, I KID YOU NOT. This sched is killing me.)

Ideas? Anyone? We need a size 6.

  1. why can't she re-order it? Talk to the seller, hopefully she'll understand and overnight it to you- no?

  2. Contact the seller immediately and see if she can put a rush on it for you somehow.

Maybe go with UPS instead of USPS if that's possible. It think cause of tax time the mail is super slow right now. I've been waiting forever for things I've ordered.

  6. Have them rush it to you. Given the initial delay, it should be on the seller to make sure it gets to you. Have them deliver it by UPS or FedEx to somewhere there are people (your office, your friend who works at home). Track the package. xo

  7. This might be one of the few times that I recommend BHLDN.

  8. How about this one? It's not as loose as the dress you loved, but I think it's incredibly pretty: http://www.etsy.com/listing/72903211/vintage-70s-mexican-maxi-dress-white?ref=sr_gallery_33&ga_ref=auto&ga_search_query=mexican+dress&ga_search_type=vintage&ga_facet=vintage

or this - no need to belt it: http://www.etsy.com/listing/47710980/into-the-sunsent-vintage-embroidered?ref=sr_gallery_23&ga_search_query=mexican+dress&ga_page=2&ga_search_type=vintage&ga_facet=vintage

  9. when is your wedding? if time isn't an issue, there is no reason why you can't re-order.

but if time is of the essence, you might want to look around.

okay - since the bride-to-be's original dress description was "Hippie Fairy Chic Bohemian" i checked out Free People.

this style is pretty similar to your dream dress, with sleeves but a bit more form-fitting, which your FH might like. $228

    http://www.freepeople.com/vintage-loves-clothes/vintage-gauze-peasant-dress/

the size is a m/l so you might have to have it tailored if you're a size 6

    good luck!

  10. check out Free People. They have a few dresses that have a similar feeling. Nothing exact, but my advice is to look for something that gives you the feeling. Forget the first dress. I thought I wanted something with lace and vintagey and champagne colored, but ended up with a purple dress. Had I not opened up my requirements I never would have found it (and three weeks before my wedding no less). Good luck!

  11. check out this shop on etsy: http://www.etsy.com/shop/AidaCoronado?ref=pr_shop_more

  12. I have to say I like a lot of the options above more than the dress you are hung up on. I would keep in mind that you have not seen that dress in person and it may turn up and be a let down.

I think Rachel is right on with Exhibit B (Adam dress from Shopbop). It will be comfy and robe like (you can fit a lot of cocktails and cake in that thing) but the back is totally sexy,

    ReplyDelete
  13. @sofia.romps - i agree, that Adam Dress is stunning.

  14. They are sold out of the size 6 on shopbop, but they have it at net-a-porter

  16. Well, yeah of course you CAN ask to have the dress reshipped and you should if you really, really want it (which it sounds like you do).

If there is no time or you decide not to for some reason. I'd either go with the Behldn option Maddie suggested or one of the two etsy options clemmieblue linked to, they are both so lovely. Have to say I'm not totally into the Adam dress everyone else loves.

    Good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I truly think this is the world telling you that maybe you should pick a different dress. There are so many super pretty options on this comments thread. Shop away!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Poor thing! It sounds like you went through Etsy hell! I might not reorder through that vendor.

I love Exhibit E that Rachel posted above. The A.L.C. macrame number.

This may be an option, too: http://www.calypsostbarth.com/Savon-Robe-Dress-p-18370.html

To reiterate Mouse (above): Wherever/whenever/however you find your dress: Make sure you get a tracking number. Look it up online and watch the package in its various stages of shipping. I watch EVERYTHING I order, so I know exactly when it's "in transit," or "out for delivery" or "arrived." If you're still afraid of missing it at home, have it shipped to your workplace. Just an idea. GOOD LUCK. xo.

  19. ooooh @rachel, love exhibit B!

Although I have to say, I agree with @Sarah: If it's been this difficult to resolve to get the dress, buy the dress, doesnt come, sits at PO, gets sent back, then you have to order it again? Mayyybe the universe is trying to tell you something. Might not meant to be. However, I know you really want an "alternative dress" and there are so so many out there! Keep looking, you will find something.

    ReplyDelete
  20. And also: dont feel bad if you have second thoughts about the dress. I bought my dress months ago, love it, but I still see dresses that I would have also loved to wear. That's just how it goes.

  21. I'm with Anon 9:36. The Adam dress is WAY PREGGERS.

  23. I like the original dress, it's beautiful, and also, sod the message from the universe, if you love the dress, re-order! But maybe if your husband still doesn't like it, wear it as a bathrobe for the rest of your life instead of for your wedding :)

Or, buy it and alter it to make it sexier?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Having said that, the Free People dress and the Temperley dress are both gorgeous, and more 'dress' like.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I like the dress Nicole posted above.

For the record, ESB, I did catch the "me" link.

  27. But now I'm in love with the outnet dress anon just posted a few comments above. A little more fitted and I think her future husband would love it!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yes, Colleen. The outnet dress is IT. Me Again, if you don't buy that dress you're in big trouble.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Here's a dress from Ralph Lauren's new line which Net-A-Porter is calling "Prairie Chic" (lord help us).

kinda splits the difference between traditional and and the dress you ordered it's pricey though:
    http://www.net-a-porter.com/product/109197

I still think you should try to get that dress you want- reorder it, rush it, track it but have a back up.

    ReplyDelete
  30. On second thought, I vote for the outnet dress Colleen posted. It's got the whole hippie/boho/prairie vibe but is a bit more sophisticated. Plus, low neckline=happy groom.

    ReplyDelete
  31. ALSO, I totally just fell upon this little baby at F21?!?

  32. Did someone mention the Chris Benz dress at Shopbop? I had a moment with it. I don't think the model looks happy enough to be wearing it. It's got yellow. What's not to smile about?

    thanks again,

  35. omg i am shocked by how many responses are here. But here are my options

this maxi by Free people for $120-ish http://www.freepeople.com/clothes-dresses-maxi/threaded-lurex-maxi-dress/

this ruffle asos is very non traditional
    http://www.asos.com/Asos/Asos-Maxi-Dress-With-Ruffle-Sleeves/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1577075&cid=8799&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=200&sort=-1&clr=Multi

    BUT THIS ONE IS BEST:
    http://www.asos.com/River-Island/River-Island-Flower-Embellished-Maxi-Dress/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=1543690&cid=8799&sh=0&pge=0&pgesize=200&sort=-1&clr=White

its chiffon, has some embellishment but still has a folky-tiered skirt that you seem to like.

BUT the link to the OUTNET is gone so I presume Colleen wins!

    yay for dresses

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh! Now I want to see the dress that was bought instead, but the link has stopped! AHHHH the disappointment!

    ReplyDelete
  37. Ooh. I REALLY like the outnet dress. But I just found this vintage option that really catptures the essence of your first dress, though a bit less robe-like.
