My #1 piece of wedding planning/marriage/relationship advice

DON'T FORGET TO FUCK. Or, you know, make love.* Whatever you like to call it.

Yes, it's healthy to go to bed angry once in a while. But then you have to make up, you feel me? And you'll be amazed how those asinine fights melt away when you're both, um, satisfied, and you remember what you're doing together in the first place.

*I hate "make love." "Make love" makes me want to barf. But like I said, whatever you like to call it.

(The photo is of Hannah, obv. Incidentally, while surfing her blog, I landed on this bit of advice that anyone planning a wedding ought to read immediately.)

  2. from being in the married world for only a few months, I have already gotten a sense that talking about a husband and wife having sex seems more taboo then discussing a one night stand.

i'm putting a billboard up in Times Square that reads:

MARRIED PEOPLE FUCK. that's kind of the point.

  3. Take advantage while you can, before you have babies (if you're planning to have babies, that is) :) The fucking is all so much easier before the little ones come along... although they really are worth it and of course you have your whole marriage to be getting busy. I'm just saying.

  4. amen sister. and meg's totally right - it's ok to go to bed angry. i wish i would have read both of your posts earlier...i used to feel like a giant FAIL when we'd fight over something stupid and sleep in different rooms. but it happens, and it's not the end of the world.
ps. anonymous, thanks for making me depressed. whatever, you anonymous debbie downer.

  5. Agreed! Especially since the best part of fighting is the making up. Or when you do it before you've even made up. Nothin' wrong with a little angry sex. Just sayin'.

  7. Make love - bleugh. Sleeping on an argument tends to be a necessity as we do most of our arguing in bed before sleep. But sleepy make-up sex the next morning is gooood. Morning sex/late night sex/just got home from work sex can't decide which I like best.

  8. ESB, you are the best.

And Anon, sheesh, can we not, for once, just have a conversation about married people fucking without someone getting all "take advantage while you can, before you have babies"? ARGH!

(Oh, sorry, must be getting frustrated since I have a baby now and therefore never have sex. #sarcasm)

  10. this is sage-like advice. thanks for sending a billion folks to read my gushy recounting of the wedding day, my hit counter has gone through the roof as a result! Your blog is super and lament the fact that I did not it at the time of nuptials (reading a wedding blog may have reminded me of certain necessary bridal things like a veil, or shoes). xo

  14. Ha! You know, I love this blog. Sometimes I click here and you say something completely cranky and I think "I am too prematurely middle aged and altogether unhip to get this". And then you say something really smart in an incredibly basic way, and I'm like "oh yeah. THAT's why I come here". Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to take my prematurely middle aged self offline and go try to get some. :-)

  16. BEST wedding planning advice ever! I'm looking forward to "wedding planning" this weekend... and the rest of our lives! We'll never think of "wedding planning" the same again, and that is a good thing.

  17. i hate the word "make love" and, to quote Liz Lemon, I only like the word 'lovers' "when it's between the words 'meat' and 'pizza'"
    :)
