MORE PANTS PLS

Dear ESB,

Please help a pants-lovin' lady. I am wearing these beige silk pants to my wedding. I love them but am worried about looking too casual even for my outdoor-picnic kind of wedding. I am wearing some killer heels with them (obvs), but what top should I wear to kick this into fancy mode?

Also, pants week was amazing but so long ago. I want more?

*****

With you in mind, I just did a pants-loving bride post for A Practical Wedding. I even stole your phrase.

My choices may or may not be TOO STYLISH for the APW crowd, but I think you'll dig em. (Pay special attention to all the sexy sleeveless tuxedo-y tops.)

  1. I wish I'd worn pants. I never wear dresses, certainly not sleeveless ones because my arms are shitty and fat, but that's what I wore for my wedding. blah.

  2. could read GOLDEN GIRLS in a bad way (not that such a way exists, but for argument's sake), but i fell in love with this at club monaco the other day (it's much sexier in person than it is on the model, and sparklier), and i think it should be worn with everything. so there.

  3. Ugh APW's new design hurts my eyes. I am just going to assume everything ESB posted was awesome though.

I'm also partial to this shirt and also this one, both from zara.

Either way, paired with killer heels and killer accessories you'll look fancy enough. Maybe some sort of fun head accessory also? Go big or go home.

  4. ESB- completely incompetent at technology- so will refrain from making a hideous copied out link- but THE best wedding outfit i have recently seen is from an aussie TV show called Wonderland- wedding jumpsuit from camilla and marc and a custom made turban. Need i say more- too glorious.

    1. Were you really disappointed with the ending of Wonderland though?

She looked gorgeous (the bride, Collette), but the ending was just...oh.

  5. That Keiley Kimmel top in the APW post is killer. With those oh-so-subtle pants you need MAJE VOLZ.*

    *major volume.

  6. what a bummer - I loved APW when I was planning my wedding, but that new design is horrendous.. if I was planning now I would skip right over the site, which is a shame!

  7. I don't know why everyone is complaining about APW's new design. There are things I'd change, sure, but the old design was WAY outdated and clumsy.

Anyway, the outfits in ESB's post are exactly the kind of thing we tried to get our lesbian friend to wear when she was a bridesmaid in another friend's wedding 2 years ago. It did not work. That style was way too femme and stylish for her--it actually meant that just wearing a dress was easier b/c it was straightforward. She wore a dress for the ceremony (looking awful and uncomfortable the whole time) and then changed into pants and a shirt and tie (looking way cuter, but too casual for being a maid in that wedding).

Because people hate change and will always complain about it ;)

    3. Yeah, but the old one kind of looked like a B&B run by an old lady with a bunch of cats.

    5. Inspired by this back & forth, I checked out APW. Why is everyone moving to Read More links? The worst. I'm categorically boycotting them.

    6. I've found my interest in apw has dropped off drastically since the site redesign, which is strange because I've been a loyal reader since the very, very beginning. The whole site just feels to sterile to me, and polished in a cold way. Maybe if they change up the comments I won't feel that way as much.

    7. @MsK I hate that all the blogs are turning into "magazines"

    8. @MsK, the comments really bother me, too. I can't put my finger on what it is, but I don't like engaging there nearly as much as I did before. I don't mind the redesign overall, but I do not like the comments.

emphasis on the air quotes there.

    10. @lauren a magazine is something you can a) read during takeoff on airplanes, b) safely drop in the bath.

  8. One of my bridesmaids wore a really structured peplum top with fitted pants to our rehearsal dinner, and she looked amazing, and definitely dressy enough. this is the general idea

  9. Wait a minute, did you recommend that someone wear *gold Birkenstocks* to her own wedding?

    I don't... understand.
