please help me find this thing

Hi,

Can you or your readers help me find this outfit (minus the hat?) for my wedding reception?

Wedding, which is fast approaching, consists of 3 (count 'em 3) receptions. One that follows directly after the wedding for which I will be wearing this exquisite beaded creation that took tons of time and energy first shopping in many, many horrible wedding dress showrooms and then finally designing myself. Looks sort of like an off-white version of this. It is unbelievably gorgeous but is pretty much the opposite of this look I'm hoping to wear at the other more low-key 2nd and 3rd (I know) receptions.

For these other events I'd like to wear something simple, white and fun. Preferably short (though it will be winter). I have missed out on two options so far (vintage wedding dress from etsy - listing gone and new dress from barneys) because I didn't act fast enough so I could really use your help. Budget is under $1000. Would love to find something under $500 even.

thank you!

Just wear the damn beaded thing. GAH.

  1. I disagree with esb (and yet will be no help as a shopper). Wearing the gorgeous beaded dress will probably make you more self conscious than you need to be for these other receptions (as in, worrying if you tear it, drop some food on it, etc considering it is so gorgeous and you need to wear it twice more plus keep for posterity). I love the short dress + coat option you've chosen.

  2. If you love this so much, why wouldn't you wear it as much as possible? What's the point of saving something "for posterity" when you could just, you know, enjoy it in the present?

  3. I'm with ESB on this one, but hey, any excuse to browse the internet for dresses I'm not going to pay for...

The sleeves on this are dumb, but it might suit...

This is a little more form-fitting than the example, but cute

    Maybe?

  4. After beaded thing I believe you could show up to your reception in a long white satin tee and white heels and nobody would know you'd simply forgotten your pants.

  5. That model (or bride) needs to eat a sandwich.

    2. Yes, why don't you go away and eat a sandwich? Or purge your recently-eaten sandwich, depending on how you'd like your body to be judged by the internet?

    3. Yes you are right... I definitely shouldn't have my body judged by the internets. /sob

    4. Are you guys serious? This may be a club of mean hipster brides but I didn't think it was a place of awful body bashing. I don't want unhealthy bodies promoted any more than others but none of you know this person's situation. If, as it's been alluded to, this woman actually has an eating disorder, I don't think "go eat a sandwich" is very respectful or helpful of someone with a disease.

Go hang out on Pinterest with all the other mean girls.

    5. Fully agree with Hilary. Lets knock ugly clothes and ugly shoes and bad ideas - not various body types (of which their are millions).

    6. Agree with Hilary. Yeah, I totally stared at her extremely thin legs for a while but I never thought, "ooooh ED for suuuure" I just hate that if someone in a pic looks thin, you can bet some asshat will have to bring it up in some derogatory way. Get over it.

    7. My dearly missed best friend was very much thin as this model and ate like a horse. Constantly got "you're so skinny" comments. Super thin legs and arms, bird chest, and yet had big boobs. More than once, I had a mutual friend or family member ask me if she was "ok", the subtext being "what's her deal, does she have an ED?". Nope, never did, loved food, had a crazy metabolism, her entire family was also skinny as hell. She suffered from cruel comments like this her whole damn life until the day she died. So please, anon, STFU.

      So please, STFU

    8. Agree with Hillary. Besides, you can't even see her torso to make a judgement (for better or worse). Her legs are thin but that's down to genetics usually. I have thin legs, and eating more cake doesn't increase their girth.

The woman in the picture looks delightfully happy!

    9. Hi? I'm the Jen from earlier and my post was completely snark in agreement with Hillary. I was trying to get at how inappropriate it is to tell someone to go eat a sandwich, by turning it back on them. I thought that "depending on how you want your body to be judged by the internet" might have been enough to tip off the sarcasm? Similarly with the Anon post right after mine -- I think they got the message? So if we are the targets of your backlash... I'm with you 100%, ok?

    10. Are you guys fucking kidding me? It's ok to bash someone's clothes and shoes, but to suggest someone eats a sandwich takes it over the line???

I didn't say she had an eating disorder - I said she needs to eat a sandwich... But since we are FREAKING out about a statement like that, but are fine making fun of what she's wearing or her life choices: Her hat is ugly.

    11. Anon 450. . .you are pretty daft if you can't see the difference between talking shit about clothes and talking shit about body type. So I will assist you and spell it out for you: one is completely by choice. The other can be partially altered by choice but also has a genetic (ie unchangeable) component.

You are correct in saying that you did not say she had an ED, however it was strongly implied (that she does not eat, an element in many EDs) so it's pretty easy to condemn you and your comment.

    12. Hey Anon 646 - you are right, I'm sorry - we can only bully people when it's about their clothes because they can choose those 100% of the time, but only their weight about 75% of the time.

Get over it. I'll say it again - the girl looks a little too thin, she should eat a sandwich or 50 lbs of spinach. And her hat is stupid.

    13. Anon 450 — does this mean I get to tell every woman over a size 4 that she needs to lay off the ham?

    14. Sigh. Anon 450. . . You need a picture drawn with crayons to understand this. I don't think many here would argue with you on the hat.

    15. i personally am skinny as hell and blah blah blah. it pisses me off that people (friends, family, random strangers) feel that it's okay to criticize my body. EXACTLY what anon 1103 said. would you have ever written "that model (or bride) needs to have her stomach stapled" if she was big?

      Delete
    16. Yes... if what she was wearing highlighted the fact that she was overweight and in my personal opinion whatever she was wearing was unflattering... yes I might suggest that. I didn't suggest a woman with average or slightly thin legs to eat a sandwich, nor did I imply that she was anorexic. I believe that the dress highlights her legs which I think look overly thin so I suggested a sandwich.

And I didn't suggest she get fillers, much like I wouldn't suggest someone who was overweight to get their stomach stapled. However, I might suggest she eat a salad....

  6. I meant after THE beaded thing.

BTW, Google Trapeze Dress. You'll find the silhouette.

  13. Definitely not a real vintage bride/dress-- it's from a photo shot. There's a little caption in white writing in the top right corner of the picture. Anyone know what magazine this is from?

  14. Who's the couple in the photo? I don't recognize them.
