LET THE PEPLUM DIE

Does this even count as a peplum? WTF is going on with this??

Get it together, Alexander.

In other news:

We survived the rain!

I am directing a short film.

And.... Jenny Wren just sent me the perfect pair of pants (similar to these, but in vivid orange and blue). They're the ideal blend of pajama/evening and THEY ARE MY NEW JAM.

This Acne is excellent. And it's 100% SILK.

I'm also digging this Wang (50% off!).

Well shopped, ladies.

just sitting here at my dad's house in the woods, wearing the same flannel shirt going on three days in a row, drinking coffee and blogging about minimalist wedding garb.

Speaking of sack dresses.* (Sort of.)

Hello ESB,

I just received an email from Barney's telling me the super chic dress that I was planning to wear at my Jan 2, 2014 civil ceremony in San Francisco is sold out!

This dress [pictured above] is pretty much perfection to me.

Everything else I find that's made with quality natural fibers is either too short or a boring sheath dress that is way overpriced.  All the more interesting dresses I find are made of polyester and even more overpriced.

Do you have any suggestions?  I work all day and have very little time to online shop, much less to actually go to brick and mortar stores.

My sweet fiance has been looking on etsy for me, but I don't want to wear something that looks obviously bridal that I will only want to wear once.

PLEASE HELP!!

IT'S YOUR TUESDAY MORNING SHOPPING CHALLENGE!

Dear ESB,

My fiance and I are getting married in less than 4 months in Las Vegas and I don't have a dress. I am not even close to knowing what I want or what would be appropriate. My guys and his best men are wearing black suits, white shirts and black ties. My best ladies are wearing a short black dress of their choice (I want them to really be able to wear their dress again).

We are getting married at a hotel (see: attached photo of ceremony space). We're ditching the purple uplighting, dimming the lights and adding lots of candles. Followed by drinks on a double decker bus and dinner in a swanky restaurant's private dining room with 30 of our closest friends and family.

Everything is set - except for the dress and I have no idea where to start. Can you or your readers help me out? What would you wear?

*****

Dear my readers,

What would YOU wear to get married in Vegas?

(Under $1000, s'il vous plait)

I think I'd go for this baby from Alexander Wang Resort 2013 (thx Anna!), which is sadly not for sale yet.

our big day (from 17beats)

Greetings from your resident cranky-pants and kill-joy, 17beats !!!

You've been getting a lot of emails from women hemming and hawing about eloping ... or questioning if they should just scrap their over-the-top wedding plans and retreat to Vegas. Here's our story (and a bunch of pictures) about the wedding that we thought would never happen.

The whole event was almost completely spontaneous, which truth be told, is very US. It wasn't until 36 hours prior that I even contemplated getting a dress; I just figured I'd wear something I already owned. After lunch with a good friend, though, I picked out this little number on a whim. It was somehow flattering (a marvel when you're 4 months pregnant) and seemed like it could be worn again. Everything else -- the bracelet, the ring, the earrings, the clutch -- was part of my hoard of sparklies. I had planned on wearing some brown pumps, but switched to black that morning, as it was chilly and I needed to wear a jacket.

The entire day was easy-breezy. No hoopla whatsoever! D's best friend was the witness and the photographer -- we called him the night before. I am lucky enough to be friends with a florist, so the bouquet & corsage literally appeared on our doorman's desk that morning (such a lovely gift from a dear lady).

We got an early start, and bounced over to City Hall and did the deed IN UNDER TWENTY MINUTES, and then headed uptown to buy rings. The sales woman was over-the-moon excited for us -- apparently we were the first newlyweds she'd ever helped (in 25 years) and she just LOVED our "story." We celebrated with a divine lunch at the Modern, and a leisurely stroll through MoMA, something we never seem to have the time for. That was the whole idea of the day -- to have the date we always promise each other, but never do because of work/crowds/etc.

We came home and D surprised me with a "Happy Birthday and Wedding" cake from my favorite straight-out-of-1960 Italian bakery. It was filled with chocolate pudding and cannoli cream and was absolutely delicious. It actually said "Happy Birthday and Wedding" on the top in perfect florescent pink jelly-icing script, which I found endlessly amusing. (I think I forgot to mention that it happened to be my 30th birthday, and the day before the world was supposed to end... HA.) After some cake, we slow danced to Lou Reed's "Perfect Day" and I sobbed like the sentimental sap I evidently am.

But that's because it was a Perfect Day. People fawned over us and went out of their way to be kind. There were "Mazel Tovs," "Best Wishes," and handshakes at every turn. Without a reservation, we somehow scored a table at the restaurant in under a minute. Countless tourists took our photos, and ladies-who-lunch toasted us with champagne. A little girl told us we looked like a prince and a princess, and a security guard cracked Will and Kate jokes. Even though we wanted the day to be completely private and JUST BETWEEN US, we ended up sharing it with all of New York. It was magnificent.

I am overwhelmed with joy that you sent me these photos.

I love them love them love them. And I love your story. It's just what I needed to hear on September 12, 2011.

ALEXANDER WANG Much?

I think someone should get married in this slip dress.

welcome to my summer wardrobe

I've been obsessing about this dress for months, so when I went over to the Alexander Wang site to visit it on Monday and I noticed that the stock was dwindling, I decided to just fucking bite the bullet already and order it (in black, obv). I'm calling it an early birthday present to myself.

Last summer I sweltered, desperately scouring ebay for the perfect t-shirt dress that I never found. Sometimes it's worth paying full price to get exactly what you're looking for. And I am gonna wear this baby every day. With flip flops. With wedges. With my new docs.

Available in grey and black at Alexander Wang (sizes limited), in white at Oak, and in black at Creatures of Comfort.*

*If I may put in a word for the ladies of Creatures of Comfort... Yesterday cevd and I went into the store on Melrose and I tried on the dress (which is even better than I'd hoped) just to be sure I ordered the right size from AW. I obsessed. I made them pull sizes out of the back. They even looked up AW's return policy for me before I decided the dress I ordered was the right size after all and didn't buy anything from them. They could not have been cooler.

up with Alexander Wang

I freaked out when I saw the racer-back dress Joanna posted yesterday. And then I found this one.

Slouchy. Summery. With a dash of.... Yes. Super hero.

Kill me now.
